Reflections in Tatreez (I-III)
A three-piece series of intuitive tatreez works, Reflections in Tatreez begins with a traditional Palestinian motif and gradually departs from convention through a process of instinctive mark-making and pattern building. Each piece in the series starts from a shared ancestral visual language before evolving into a personal cartography—an exploration of memory, inheritance, and self-definition. The series includes:
I. Birthing Cypress (Celestial Blue and Deep Walnut)
II. Tulip in a Teacup (Moss & Forest Green)
III. Stars of Bethlehem (Scarlet & Butter Yellow)
Bint No. 194 approaches tatreez not as a fixed archive, but as a living practice. Constructed from mirrored mosaic tiles, the work invites viewers to see themselves within the pattern. The mirrored surface creates a shifting dialogue between the viewer and the motif, suggesting that heritage is not static—it is continually reassembled through those who inherit it.
